Rock 'n' Roll

The phrase Rock'n'Roll was first coined in 1951 by DJ Alan Freed. Elvis Presley led the shock troops, followed by an army of young pretenders, making Rock'n'Roll popular music's first real youth movement.
From the start, Rock'n'Roll was all about discovering sex and excitement. Half a century on, these templates for modern pop music still sound as thrilling as the day they were first released on scratchy 78 and 45 rpm records.
